Turntable Kitchen: January, 2012

“Twenty-twelve is already off to a strong start in terms of good music. Although there haven’t been a lot of great albums yet (after all we are only a few weeks in), there have been a host of intriguing singles popping up left and right. If these singles are a sign of what’s to come this year, then my prediction is that 2012 is going to be a great year for music. Not everything here was released in 2012 – some of these tracks have been floating around for months even – but now just felt like a good time to get them out there”  (

Turntable Kitchen March 2011 Mix

Aprovechable.

Turntable Kitchen March 2011 Mix (2011)

“Here it is, the Turntable Kitchen March 2011 mix.  It came together surprisingly quickly, and yet I feel like it is one of my favorite mixes I’ve put together in awhile.  It is certainly eclectic, but that undoubtedly reflects the fact that my mind has been suffering from musical attention deficit disorder.  I’ve been listening to more than my usual share of underground hip hop recently (because I’ve been exposed to a lot of good underground hip hop recently) which is reflected on the mix below with great tracks by Mainframe, Johnson & Jonson (which is Blu + Mainframe), Shabazz Palaces, Phred Diamond, and Das Racist. But I also can’t quit listening to the latest albums by Radiohead and Motel Beds, and the same goes for the latest tracks from Work Drugs.  Also, I’ve been receiving some great new finds in the inbox including the tracks featured here by Hong Kong in The 60s, Alexander and the Eureka Birds.  And I’ve spent a lot of time going through old used vinyl records having recently scored a number of great records by David Bowie, Elvis Costello and The Miracles.  So eclectic this may be, but it definitely is a snapshot of what has been filling the space between my ears this month. And you may also notice that it is a relatively upbeat mix.  And why shouldn’t it be?  After all, things have been good for Turntable Kitchen recently: we partnered with our favorite print magazine (Wired) for a podcast, we co-hosted two nights of culinary and musical tribute (and our first physical events) for Noise Pop, and this past weekend we finished filming our TV debut with a segment for the Cooking Channel (we’ll be on (Food)ography!).  Sure, I’m growing a little impatient waiting for that email from Radiohead offering us the exclusive on their next album, but I’m sure it will come any day now” (

Turntable Kitchen: January Mix (2011)

Turntable Kitchen: January Mix (2011)

“The January 2011 mix is dedicated to the ridiculously awesome Laser Kittens mural that once graced Divisadero Street in San Francisco. That mural was the game. So with any luck this mix will sound somewhat as awesome as the picture above looks with lots of laser-like sounds, pouncing kittens, and a dash of urban grittiness. In that regard, the January mix is quite different from the December mix in a number of respects, but it is still notably low on straight-forward indie-rock. I guess this is just a reflection of where my head has been recently. Still, there is a ridiculous amount of great music here.  I hope you find something new that you like” (

Turntable Kitchen: November 2010 Mix (& Hozac Records Giveaway)

Una de las recopis que vamos a postear hoy es una muy interesante: la que edita el portal Turntable Kitchen, con una selección impresionante de algunos de los mejores nombres de este 2010. Pincha en el enlace para disfrutar de ella.

Turntable Kitchen – November 2010 Mix (& Hozac Records Giveaway)

“Hello, it’s me.  Or rather, it is my first mixtape for our new site, which I have creatively titled “November 2010 Mix.”  As you have come to expect from the mixtapes I prepared on the old site, this mix is super-saturated with music that is elegant, juvenile, hissing, cooing, snarling, purring, lavish and razor-sharp.  Indeed, you are certain to stumble across faces you recognize as you wander these ever-changing corridors of sonic bliss.  Many of these artists have been previously featured on these pages before (such as the Decemberists, Bear Hands, The National, Real Estate, Kanye West, Theophilus London, the XX, Girl Talk, the Japandroids, Evenings, Tennis and Girl Talk), but this is the first time I’ll have introduced you to folks such as Ty Segall, La Sera, Courtship, Blouse, Emily Reo, Madjo, and Reading Rainbow (who was brought to us by the wonderful people at Hozac Records)” (
