The Charlatans - Different Days

KYTHIRA: Cut through (Healthy Tapes, 2019)

#TheJangleBox #NovedadesTheJangleBox #DescubreTheJangleBox #RememberTheJangleBox

“Sydney/Copenhagen/NY-based artist Kythira releases her debut album Cut Through – a jangly collection of heartwarmingly honest bedroom pop.
Kythira is the project of nomadic musician Alyssa Gengos, named after the Greek island of the same name (Κύθηρα). The two singles, Change My Mind and My Name are a perfect representation of the record – addictive guitar pop that’s straight to the point with little more than a drum machine and cheap casiotone to accompany Alyssa’s incredibly catchy vocal hooks.
Self-produced on her laptop while moving around between Sydney, LA and Copenhagen, Cut Through follows up her synth-driven EP Soon, I Promise released back in January 2018. The tape is a stunning bedroom pop release, sure to appeal to fans of Fazerdaze or Best Coast” (Bandcamp Notes)

Unloadings – CAGE THE ELEPHANT: Social Clues (RCA, 2019)

Social Cues

#TheJangleBox #NovedadesTheJangleBox #DescubreTheJangleBox #RememberTheJangleBox

“Considering how Cage the Elephant brought home the Best Rock Album Grammy for Tell Me I’m Pretty in 2017, it’s a bit startling that its successor, Social Cues, abandons the rough-and-tumble aesthetic producer Dan Auerbach brought to the band. Auerbach helped Cage the Elephantemphasize the bash-around garage elements lurking within their music, a sensibility that is absent onSocial Cues. CTE work with producer John Hill, who previously helmed albums by Florence + the Machine, for this 2019 album, but a better touchstone for what they’re attempting to achieve is Beck, who appears on the single “Night Running” and joined the group on a co-headlining tour in support of the album. Particularly on Colors, the 2017 LP that snagged him a Grammy for Best Alternative Album,Beck specialized in a bright, vivid pan-cultural pop, echoes of which can be heard on Social Cues.Cage the Elephant also paints Social Cues with bold hues swiped from a primary palette, but they aren’t especially interested in the here and now. While there may be some hints of modern flair on the margins — they exhibit a particular fondness for drum machines — Social Cues beats to a neon-lit pulse appropriated from the glory days of MTV. Such a bright glare evokes the ’80s, but like all Cage the Elephant albums, Social Cues is a canny blend of familiar elements whose origin lies just out of reach. By making such a decisive shift in direction, CTE wind up dampening the squalls of White Stripes, Strokes, and Pixies that defined their first decade of records, but that change also emphasizes how the group are at heart pop-pastiche artists, favoring style and sound over a finely honed song” (All Music)

Ending on a Hi Note – DRUGDEALER: Raw Honey (Mexican Summer, 2019)

#TheJangleBox #NovedadesTheJangleBox #DescubreTheJangleBox #RememberTheJangleBox

“The first Drugdealer album, The End of Comedy, was a bit of a stylistic shift for the band’s main instigator, Michael Collins, that saw him moving away from trippy and weird psych towards something far more relaxed and Laurel Canyon-y. There were a few kinks to be ironed out, like meandering songs and a few too many cooks, but it was a promising and enjoyable record. The second Drugdealeralbum, Raw Honey, has zero kinks left to work out and fulfills all the promise of the debut and more. This time around, Collins and a wide range of collaborators absolutely nail the lush and lovely singer/songwriter sound of the mid-’70s, while adding some healthy bits of warm weirdness and subtle grandeur to the mix along the way. The album is a cool mix of shaggy-dog pastiche and real feeling moments of emotion, all wrapped up in an organic sound that’s as familiar as a favorite old blanket. The songs that dig a little deeper into emotional territory — like “Honey,” which is sung with perfect tenderness by Natalie Mering (aka Weyes Blood), or “Lost in My Dream,” which combines emotional weight with a liltingly sweet melody and very lush arrangements — are the songs that linger the longest. And the late-night soft rock ballads like the very Steely Dan-ish “Fools” are the ones that go down the smoothest, but the fun songs stick around, too. The Harley Hill-Richmond-sung “Lonely” is a peppy little pop trifle that Harry Nilsson would have been happy to call his, “Wild Motion” features the languorous vocal stylings of Douglas Poole and answers the question of what 10cc would have sounded like if Roy Orbison had joined the band, and “London Nightmare” strums and hums along in happily rambling fashion. Michael Collins oversees all the players like a chilled-out Brian Wilson, the band fits together like blocks of hashish, and if the listener isn’t completely relaxed by the time the record is over, they should likely seek medical attention” (AllMusic)

AZURE BLUE: Images of You (Matinée Recordings, Hibrys, 2019)

#TheJangleBox #NovedadesTheJangleBox #DescubreTheJangleBox #RememberTheJangleBox

“Azure Blue, one of Sweden’s most internationally acclaimed indie artists, is back with a stunning fifth album ‘Images of You’ and it is absolutely clear that somebody has fallen in love. Consistent with the approach on the celebrated debut album ‘Rule of Thirds’ in 2011, Tobias Isaksson set his main focus on the songwriting with tracks written on guitar and carefully transformed into warm analog synth soundscapes. Using his film director girlfriend as a muse, the results are heartfelt and romantic pop classics.
Cinematic opener ‘Hökarängen’ is the sound of the night bus home from the studio marking the end of an era roaming aimlessly alone, while ‘Entropy’ is a three-minute rush of synthpop perfection that signals the thrilling excitement of newfound love. ‘Event Horizon’—one of several featured singles on the album—is a dark but hopeful story about love in the time of climate change that showcases captivating melodies, a soaring chorus, and a certain Spanish flair.
‘Millions of Stars’ is another enchanting single featuring analog synth arpeggios and one of the biggest crescendos we’ve heard from nearly a decade of productions, while ‘Images of You’ is two minutes of haunting old school synthpop with ethereal female backing vocals and ‘Running with the Eventide’ slows down the pace with an especially honest love song.
‘Yesterday’s Gone’ is another single contender with a sensational singalong chorus, enticing percussion, and absolutely superb melodies, while ‘Wild for the Night’ is a keyboard-driven manic pop thrill and lead single ‘Shine On’ is a dreamy synthpop hit with shimmering reverb that brightens up the song like the northern lights.
‘Sea of Love’ is an earnest love song that further demonstrates Isaksson’s romantic side, while album closer ‘The Rose’—a beautiful, naked ballad written and recorded in one day—is the most sincere Azure Blue track to date.
Echoing timeless pop melodies—as if Depeche Mode, New Order, and OMD grew up in Sweden instead of England—and featuring contributions from contemporary Swedish artists The Land Below and Paola, ‘Images Of You’ is consummate electronic indie and Azure Blue’s finest moment to date” (Matinée Press Release)

Days of Glory – HOLLOW HAND: Star Chamber (Talkshow Records, 2018)

#TheJangleBox #NovedadesTheJangleBox #DescubreTheJangleBox #RememberTheJangleBox

Inmejorable.

Dream Lake: Someday (Advanced Single, Imperiet, 2019)

#TheJangleBox #NovedadesTheJangleBox #DescubreTheJangleBox #RememberTheJangleBox

“Dream Lake is a Swedish pop duo from Stockholm, formed by singer Isabella Svärdstam and the musician and producer Niklas Lock. Together they create soft and silky dream pop.
The debut album “Lux” was released in November 2017 and got great reviews both in Sweden and abroad with quotes as “A deep breath and then everything is good. That unbeatable feeling. Calm. Wellbeing. This is not my attempt to write a self-help book – it is the image that Swedish Dream Lakes debut album Lux mediates”, by GAFFA Sweden.
The single “Midnight Sun” from the debut album ended up in rotation on BBC Radio with Phil Taggart who loved the song.
After the debut album, the pop duo felt that they wanted to change the direction slightly in the music and then began collaborating with the producer Mikael Landén, who shares their mindset about the music and is a true retro fan with lively imagination.
“Together we have created a nostalgic vintage dream as seen through a polaroid camera lens”, says Dream Lake.
Now, the single “Someday” is released by Imperiet Recordings. The song is about a search for a peace of mind and the desire to meet the person who makes one choose happiness as a frame of mind.
“This time we want to go more straight to the message, mix hard with soft. Taking part of each other’s differences and creating honest music”, says the pop duo” (Press Note)
