El segundo álbum de los californianos Gliss -aunque su cantante-bajista sea danesa- está en la calle desde hace algún tiempo, y hoy le vamos a dedicar el espacio que se merece. Devotion Implosion (2009) es la segunda referencia del grupo, un trío de Pop enérgico, con cierta contundencia basada en sus influencias más ruidosas. De entrada nos podréis reprochar que son una cierta réplica a The Raveonettes. Bien, me vale como excusa. Hasta su cantante es de Dinamarca, pero bueno, son una banda algo distinta: en The Raveonettes hay más influencia del ciertos sonidos más arcaicos de Garaje y de sonidos de grupos vocales de chicas de los sesenta. Gliss son una banda que se decanta más hacia el Shoegaze, el Noise-Pop y el Garaje más crudo, aunque las influencias son innegables. En el Blog MusiCologxs Addicts -del que os recomiendo su lectura- les relacionan con gentes como Silversun Pickups y Lotus Plaza. Oyendo canciones como Morning light no cabe duda de que Gliss son herederos de esa hornada de grupos que comenzó con The Jesus and Mary Chain y My Bloody Valentine; si bien con otros temas como Sleep la base rítmica se torne algo hacia territorios Kraut. En cualquier caso, el sonido de la banda es realmente cautivador, y la gran parte de los temas que conforman este Devotion Implosion son auténticos trallazos de energía guitarrera: The patrol, Morning light, 29 Acts of love, Lovers in the bathroom… Y dejo aparte las que personalmente más me han cautivado: Sad eyes, que es un tema de dos minutos y medio de plena energía rockista y guitarras afiladas, algo así como unos primigenios Primal Scream. Anybody inside es el otro tema que destacamos: pura vitalidad Noise-Pop en estado puro. Disco más que recomendable, y no sólo para seguidores Shoegazers!!
