93 Million Miles from The Sun: All you´ve found (Ep, 2010)

Tal y como dijimos hace ya algún tiempo en The JangleBox, se dice que 93 millones de millas es la distancia que hay del sol a la tierra, pero para simplificar, diremos que es el título de una cara B de un sencillo de Swervedriver. 93MMFTS es una banda de Shoegaze con todas las letras, unos enamorados de los largos desarrollos sonoros, del Noise, de los medios tiempos como principio que alimenta casi todos sus temas, un grupo de ensoñaciones y de mucho, mucho ruido, controlado o no, como reza en uno de sus temas: Waiting there (noise). Vienen del norte de Inglatrerra, no ocultan para nada sus influencias y éstas se dejan notar en sus discos, como no podía ser de otra manera. Los ecos de Ride, Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth son evidentes, pero como dignos continuadores de un sonido instaurado por aquellos, no podía ser menos que encontrarnos sus huellas sonoras en el sonido de 93MMFTS, quienes, además, reconocen a bandas coetáneas como Engineers o A Place to Bury Strangers como otras de sus influencias. All You´ve found es su último lanzamiento, un Ep que la banda y su sello discográfico han decidido regalar en descarga gratuita; una continuación de su álbum de debut homónimo, que fue uno de los favoritos del año pasado en este blog. Un disco que reincide en la sinfonía de overdrives y de distorsiones en los que nadaba su debut. Éste es un disco con una huella algo mayor de las melodías tipo Ride (All you´ve found you´ve left behind, Autumn comes/Chasing), pero con la misma intensidad sonora que aquél (Rachel´s echo, Waiting there/Noise). Un disco que evidentemente enganchará emocionalmente a todos los amantes del Shoegaze/Nugaze y que servirá de puente hacia un nuevo álbum para el año próximo. Toda una demostración de que el Shoegaze no ha muerto, antes bien, está más vivo que nunca… y por mucho tiempo!!

93 Million Miles From The Sun: 93 Milion miles from the sun (2009), Parallax Sounds

Con este sugerente nombre (es la distancia que hay entre el sol y la tierra, según he leído por ahí) se presenta este trío de Doncaster, Reino Unido. Combo realmente influenciado y marcado por el Shoegaze y el Noise, si bien hemos de decir que en esta ocasión la banda se decanta por tomar una vertiente más oscura, alambicada y reflexiva que otras bandas que hemos posteado por aquí no hace mucho tiempo. El disco de 93 Million Miles From The Sun es un disco perfectamente construido en base a machacones y sólidos fundamentos del Shoegaze: sinfonía de overdrive controlado, medios tiempos y ambientes espectrales de teclados que le dan a todo el álbum un aura de psicodelia. El resultado es, en en nuestra opinión, un tanto irregular: el disco dura una hora y veinte minutos, y por momentos se nos hace algo indigesta tal cantidad de distorsión, y el nivel de composición no siempre está en un nivel elevado, y falta la sutileza en el tratamiento sonoro de unos primeros Ride. Comienza el disco de forma prometedora, con temas impresionantes como Sleep into the night o la larguísima The times we have are now (doce minutos de canción), pero conforme avanzamos en la escucha, bien sea por saturación, bien sea porque el nivel de los temas va bajando, hemos ido perdiendo la atención. Hay una cierta tendencia a alargar los temas hasta su extenuación (sí, ya sabemos que en ocasiones ésto no es un impedimento). No obstante, hay temas remarcables, además de los ya citados, Everyday it´s time, Darke star (la mejor de la colección, en mi opinión, tema de tres minutos en los que se comprimen todos los elementos sonoros del Shoegaze), July sky, Forever soon…
